EXTRAORDINARY IN THE ORDINARY

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

I happened to hear someone praying on a local radio station this morning.

As I began listening, I discovered it was a DJ who does the Station’s early morning program. He was praying for our community, our city leaders, doctors, nurses, policemen, firemen, everyone who so willingly risk their lives to protect us everyday. Finally, he prayed for his family one at a time. When most of us are rushing out the door, He was praying.

I stopped for a moment to listen. Such a sincere, loving prayer. I don’t recall hearing a DJ praying for so many people. It was wonderful!

Another Loving memory about prayer.

I recalled a member in our church who had passed. He was such a kind person.

He shared he didn’t have a lot of money, but one thing he could do for others. He could pray for them.

Think about those words for a moment. He could PRAY. I had witnessed him giving my son several symbolic coins representing prayer.

He told him to keep one of these coins in his pocket. It would be a constant reminder he was praying for him everyday.

Simple. He was a simple Man. His smile was larger than life. “Tell Davy I am praying for him every single day, and I am praying for strength for you too, Hazel,” followed with a big hug. His smile. I shall never forget him.

My son was having ongoing health issues at the time.

A man with few earthly riches, was powerfully wealthy in God’s spiritual Blessings. I can tell you, his Father’s Heavenly riches will last for eternity. I keep his eulogy program in my bible. It’s a constant reminder of his humility and peace.

His name may not be in big lights, or hang from some hall of fame, but I can assure you his name is recorded in God’s Book of Life. I believe he is sitting with Our Heavenly Father as I write this. Jesus called out to him, “Come home, My son, come home, job well done!” I believe that with all my heart.

The coins he gave us are on my son’s bible. When I see them, I believe he is still praying for us everyday. Those are his treasures he left us. I often keep one in my wallet too.

When our minister paused in his eulogy, I began praying for him. I knew he was fighting back tears, but they were tears of joy. Our Steve had gone home to be with his Heavenly Father.

“Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I shall live in the House of the Lord forever,” Psalm 23:6, and you are, Steve. You certainly are. You are home with our Heavenly Father. Rest now.

My writing about him is to share and recognize the powerful witness for God he displayed on this earth. He touched our lives. He touched others.

I once read a card, simply stating, “Others come into our lives, leaving foot prints 0n our hearts, and we are never the same.”

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.........,” that is how we honor Steve, by letting our little light shine.

We can’t take one minute for granted. If you say hurtful words to someone, call them. Tell them you are sorry. Pray about it, better yet, pray for them. Don’t allow it to remain in your heart. Love and hate cannot live in the same heart.

“Be angry, and yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger.“ - Ephesians 4:26.

Those are not my words. Those are the words from God’s Holy bible. I will tell you I work

on this issue as well. I believe it is called PRIDE that gets in the way. You know where I read that too. My point is this. None of us have arrived. That is why we exercise daily the discipline of studying God’s Word. Just keep pressing on, as Paul taught us in the epistles.

We are not guaranteed tomorrow. The longer we wait to forgive, the m0re this root of evil Spirit will grow. Medical doctors tell us it can make you physically sick. Time has a way of healing things. Follow God’s Instructions. You can now ask Siri on your phone to locate certain scriptures on any particular subject. Can you believe that!

“Whereever your treasure is, there the desire of your heart will be also. - Matthew 6:21.

“find a man’s heart, there is where you will find his treasure.

He loved, hugged and prayed for us! That’s the BUNDLE YOU WANT! Did I mention it’s free? That bundle has eternal benefits!

Thank you, Steve, for being in our lives. We are all so much more because of you. Rest now.

The profound effect he had made on all of us will live forever. His gift was priceless!

Definition PRAY: a verb, to take action, Pray for, Pray to, (I like this one), Pray to God to

do something. Let us pray. Pray for peace. Add your own prayer to pray. Then do it.

Simple.

I ask you, what more can we ask of someone than to pray for us. Those are eternal blessings! I don’t believe God gives much applause to anything stronger than prayer and love. We all know what happens to stuff.

Start making a prayer list. Set a little time you can break away from anything that makes noise. Right now, that would be my two year old rescue dog, Great Pyrenees, Tebow, who I will Share about another time.

Afterward, find a little place of refuge. For me, it is my garden. That’s where it all began, remember? Start with each name and speak out a prayer for that loved one.

I have to remind myself. Here’s the hard part. You know that person at work you don’t like? When you see them walking toward you, you turn and run in the opposite direction, like you forgot something?

We would do anything to avoid speaking to them. Please don’t say you would never do this. Goodness, then you will have to ask God to forgive you AGAIN! Why do I say this? Because, here is the confession stuff, I do it too!

How about when driving home, you see a neighbor working in the yard, and you immediately stick your phone to your ear. You don’t even have a call, but God forbid, you stop and ask them how they are doing, or, oh yes, tell them you will be praying for them?

Hazel Lee, that’s over the top. Do they even go to church? You don’t know? Nice, no this is a hard one, INVITE THEM TO CHURCH WITH YOU! Goodness, I forgot. We are in the middle of a pandemic.

Now I am meddling, but how about that family member that you just can’t go there. Do you know they probably feel the same way you do, scared! Think about these things. Try to pray for them. Ask God to soften your heart. His office is never closed. That is all He asks.

Simply make a prayer list. By the way, that person at the office or relative, put them AT THE TOP OF YOUR LIST! I am going to confess. I do the same thing! I often ask God why do I wake up at 3 a.m. and write. I can make a list of many others who, I feel would do a much better job writing than me! He’s not talking.

Remember this. When the teacher is giving a test, (i.e. Jesus), He is not talking!

That’s when you have to recall from memory, to take HIS test. It’s not easy, is it. That’s why we have His Holy Word, the Bible, to study.

Another simple question. How can we possibly know where we are going, if we don’t know where we have been? Simple. Read His Word. Jeremiah 29:11 - Have a plan of action, a beginning and an end. It is vital for me. Once you have a plan, you accomplish more, orderly, calm, and prepared.

Give your day to God. Ask Him to direct your path. Proverbs 3:6 answers my question:

”Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take,” I love that scripture. It takes the worry out of your Day. I still work on this discipline.

“In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight!”

I have told my children just about the time “Hazel Lee” thinks she has figured it all out, that is when I end up back on my knees. I think it is called humble pie. I’m 0ver it. I expect He will tell me to come on home. He’s not done with me yet.

Perhaps I gave you a little chuckle this morning. I pray I did. I have to work on my own prayer list. Maybe, just maybe, I may have someone I need to apologize to and ask them to forgive me Keep listening and watching, dear friends. He was on his throne this morning,

Dinner with my family.

Going back to my beginning story, I mentioned the DJ to my daughter that evening, as we were about to have dinner. She told me she listens to him often on the way to work. I just looked at her. “Really!” I exclaimed. She even knew his name. By the way, she said, “he prays every morning, at 7 a.m.“ Then she proudly told me, “you would enjoy him, mom, you should listen!” I saw her cut those pretty brown eyes at her mama. You know what? I was so proud of her.

Where on earth have I been!

I simply smiled, thanking God my sweet daughter was demonstrating the very essence of my many prayers and teachings to her as a child. She let me know in a subtle way, the fruits of Christ’s teachings live in her heart.

“Come on kids, time for dinner, Lee’s going to say the blessing,” she said, smiling, as she looked back at me. What a moment in time. There will be more.

I have everyone join hands. There is about 60 seconds of feet shuffling, picking up toys,

washing hands, and, of course, our sweet dogs, Lukie and Charles huddling by the table.

They know I will give them some of my dinner. The best part of the evening was listening to all of my little girls’ comments. The best! Next, I began noticing how much they have grown. All girls.

Just for a second, I could not have been prouder of my little girl! Best mom ever! No jewels on this earth could mean more than the precious jewel standing in front of me! My daughter! She never ceases to amaze me !

Galatians 5:22-23 - “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and self-control.” These are the results of the works of the Holy Spirit in you.

Had I not been paying attention that morning, I would have missed out on hearing the DJ’s prayer.

Even worse, I would not have been having that sweet conversation with my daughter about him. That is not odd, my friends, that’s God!

Watching for the extraordinary in the ordinary happenings of our every day lives! I didn’t have to spend any money or travel anywhere either! These are our prizes, our gifts from God! Cherish them. You never know when it will happen. I’m blessed,

Thank you, Father, for this day! Keep me alert to see You in others, I pray, and for my sweet family, and my precious banana puddins’, thank you for waking me at 3 AM this morning, I hope these words on paper and scriptures inspire you. Scriptures tell us we are to encourage and hold one another up. How wonderful. Love to hear from you, and thank you for giving me a few moments of your precious time to read about my day.

IT IS NOW 3:50 A.M. - TOP OF THE MORNING TO YOU!

VIEW FROM MY FRONT DOOR YESTERDAY MORNING!

THESE HOURS! - AT LEAST HE’S CONSISTENT!

MORNING HAS BROKEN!

Time to make that prayer list.

Don’t forget to pray for you too.

Amazing what wonderful blessings God bestows upon us, when we allow Him to do His job!

When we have our ears to hear, and eyes to see, trained toward Him, we will hear and see what He is wanting us to know. and we all said Amen!

As you can see, I keep this 62 year old bible in clear sight.

It’s there for a reason. In a world of constant change, it is reassuring to know

God’s Word never changes! That gives me peace that passeth all understanding!

PRAY WITHOUT CEASING, AND WHEN YOU GET TIRED, PRAY SOME MORE!

From the garden. Gathered up some wild flowers from God’s big Garden too.
